| Who we are Granite City Soccer Club (GCSC) is a new community based traveling soccer program designed to serve the needs and interests of soccer players by providing multiple levels of competition for players; boys and girls ages 10-19 in the Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, Wright County and surrounding areas. The GCSC is an intensive program for soccer players who prefer a competitive (travel) soccer experience. The main season runs from May into July. All players attend skill evaluation sessions so that they may be placed at an appropriate skill level. For older teams, U12 and above, the emphasis is on improving skills while building respect for the game, opponents and referees. Each team will play a minimum of 10 week-night league games, plus two or more weekend tournaments during the season. U11 and above, may advance from league play through district and state playoffs. Games are played against other teams, at the same level, in the western and nothern suburbs. GCSC is lead by individuals who have participated as coaches and or players in amateur as well as professional soccer events on the local, national, and international level. One example, of expertise is Kate McNeil (Head Soccer Coach from the College of Saint Benedict's) and Stephanie McGuiness (Head Soccer Coach from Saint Cloud State University) will be an advisory member to our association. Kate McNeil is a Member of the Minnesota State Select/Olympic Development Program. The main goal of GCSC is maximizing player development through education and training while providing a playing environment that is safe and fun. We will strive to be a leading community-based soccer program in Minnesota, enabling our players, coaches, referees, and managers to develop to their fullest potential in soccer at all levels of play, while creating a true understanding of the game and sportsmanship. What is Required of you Traveling soccer is a competitive and results oriented; participation requires a significant commitment from the player and the parents. The summer traveling soccer season runs from approximately May 1st through August 10th. Players will be placed on a team based on their tryout performance; there is not charge for tryouts. Club fees include uniform costs, league registration, and other costs identified by the team such as tournament fees (please note that financial assistance is available.)
